Zambia through to CHAN 2020 Finals despite poor show against Eswatini

Zambia 2-2 Eswaitini (Agg: 3-2)

Zambia threw away a 2 goal lead to earning a draw against minnows Eswatini in the 2nd leg of the Cameroon 2020 CHAN qualifier played at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium on Saturday.

Nkwazi striker Emmanuel Chabula scored a goal in each half to give the Aggrey Chiyangi coached side a 2 goal caution and a 3 nil aggregate score but Kosta Papic’s side pulled two goals back from Dlamini Phinda and Sifiso Msaze to set up a nail-biting finale at Heroes Stadium.

Chiyangi, who is being assisted by Numba Mumanga started with the traditional 4-4-2 formation with a back four comprising of Zesco United defenders.

Skipper Adrian Chama was partnered with Clement Mwape in central defense with Simon Silwimba and Mwila Phiri as left-backs respectively.

In goal Toaster, Nsabata got the nod ahead of Sebastian Mwange while Paul Katema and Benson Sakala were preferred in the engine room with Amity Shamenda and Kelvin Mubanga wide.

Chabula was partnered with Tapson Kaseba upfront.

Chabula gave Zambia the lead in the 4th minute and added his second of the day with a classy finish in the second half.

In between Chabula’s brace, Kaseba failed to tap from close range.

The visitors pulled two goals back but things could have been worse after they hit the upfront and had a goal disallowed.

Zambia returns to the CHAN Championship for the fourth time.

AFCON winning coach Herve Renard guided the Given Singuluma led the side to bronze in 2009 while George Lwandamina’s reached the quarter-finals in Rwanda.

Wedson Nyirenda also saw his side which included Augustine Mulenga and Ernest Mbewe fail to progress to the semi-finals two years ago.

FAZ has to be serious about coaches. Chiyangi runs out of ideas and Mumamba is a failure , U20 was booted out in the group stages during COSAFA in Zambia. We need serious coaches

And zamfoot has to be serious too about their publications. This article has absolutely nothing to do with the title. Whatever they’re smoking at zamfoot it must be really strong.

I want to agree with Anonymous and i said it before that Chiyangi is not tested. Algeria will be good test for him. The less i say about he Assistant the better. We need a Coach who is tactically and technically sharp. One who is able to adjust when things are not going our way and also study the opponent,

The Eswantini Coach Kosta Papic is a vey good coach. When he Coached Orlando PirateS, Pirates were playing an attractive and attacking brand of football. Imagine if he is given the opportunity to Coach the talents of PD, Mwepu, A. Mulenga, F.Sakala, Sunzu K.Choongo…

I don’t want to be crying next year this time after we fail to qulify for another AFCON Tournament.
