Ex-Zambia assistant coach Irfan Kawri linked with Zesco job

Former Zambia national soccer team assistant coach Irfan Kawri has been linked with a Zesco United head coach job, Zambianfootball.co.zm can exclusively reveal. The ZamFoot Crew understands that the British coach is one of the favourites for the job which has been vacant since George Lwandamina left and took over as Yanga coach in Tanzania.

Coincidently, Kawri was Lwandamina’s assistant at the 2015 CHAN tournament and helped the locally based Zambia side to the best defensive record after they went four games without conceding.

During his spell at national team, Kawri worked with Zesco United players like Jacob Banda, Mwape Mwelwa, Dauti Musekwa and Clatous Chama who has since joined Egyptian side Al Attihad.

In England, the former Zambia U20 player is currently working at Championship side Queens Park Rangers, QPR.

Kawri also took charge of a lower tier side Hereford United in a pre-season game against Turkish giants Besiktas head to head with current West Ham manager Slaven Bilic who was in charge of the side then in 2014

Should Zesco United hand him the job then he will come head to head with Kampamba Chintu, who is now in charge of Kabwe Warriors. The duo worked together under Lwandamina

Zesco United reached the semi finals the CAF Champions League and finished the season as runners up to Zanaco.

The Ndola side will be playing in the CAF Confederations Cup.

  2. Egwugwu says:

It will be good for our football maybe some players can become disciplined.lnfact we nèed more coaches from foreign countries in our league.l also want to agree with wada wada on sunday interview when he said if a foreign coach is incharge whatever he requests he is given quickly and some others will panic as he comes his way but if wada asks for ten balls he will not get them. This is very true even our players are very confident on the pitch when we have a muzungu coach hence need for failue kamanga to employ someone to talk (pyche) these boys in that aspect preferably a white quack ((locally if possible ).

  3. Kuku says:

Very true, we do double up before the Muzungu.
The ZESCO job should be going to a top coach or a well qualified coach. That is what will take the Zambian game forward.
Kawri and the like will want to see European like youth system at club level, playing the same kind of football as the senior team. Wada alluded to that in his vision.
