Emmanuel Banda hits the ground running with Europa debut

Zambian midfielder Emmanuel Banda has wasted no time in claiming a position in the first team at KV Oostende of Belgium after he made his debut appearance in the UEFA Europa league against Olympique Marseille of France.

It was not a dream debut for the 19 year old attacking midfielder who came on in the 71st minute but could not help his club avoid defeat at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille when his team went down 4-2.

Oostende took on their more illustrious opponents punch for punch on their debut appearance in Europe and they were narrowly trailing by a goal at half time.

Two more goals by Germain who completed his hattrick in the second half were enough to sink Oostende despite Zimbabwean international Knowledge Musona scoring well taken lobed shot over the goalkeeper.

Banda was played in an attacking role in the midfield.

He signed for the Belgian side exactly a month ago and he will be glad to have been given a run in his team’s first competitive match in a stellar year for the lad that has seen him win the U20 Africa Cup of Nations before helping his team to the quarter finals of the U20 World Cup.

Emmanuel Banda (L) is already marked to take charge of the Chipolopolo midfield in the coming qualifiers

The two teams meet in the return match of the third qualifying round on Thursday 3rd August in Belgium.

  1. This kid must be doing some amazing things in training for the technical bench to already consider him for first team appearances. Well done lad and keep at it. With more established players like Musona and Andile Jali you must learn all you can and make your mark. Well done.

    • I read up a little bit on KV on their website and the team seems to have great chemistry. I think the you lad will excel out there especially knowing that the team has a few other players from Africa such as Knowledge and Jali that can help hi settle in. This is what we love to see

  2. This is really impressive for the young man. I know Andile Jali will take care of him having been mentored by the great Isaac Chansa himself. Hope he also takes it one day at a time. Andile Jali and Musona both took about 2-3 years before playing regularly in europes top tier so he should not rush into wanting a first eleven spot. Let it come to you.

  3. Very good Emmanuel Banda! Keep it up! The midfield of ENOCK MWEPU and EMMANUEL BANDA will spark the ChipoloPolo squad!
