Electric derby comes alive Zesco host Power

Fresh from an amazing three nil win over title contenders Lusaka Dynamos, Zesco United will host Power Dynamos today in another Copperbelt derby dubbed the Electric derby.

Power Dynamos suffered a home loss to bitter rivals Nkana in Zambia’s biggest derby, their first loss at Arthur Davies stadium this season and will be keen on redeem themselves.

This will now make for an interesting fixture with both teams still chasing the copper coated prestigious ZSL trophy.

Zesco United are on a three game winning streak something Coach Zlatko Krympotic will be praying continues if he has to safely secure his job amid rumours of his sacking getting stronger by the day. They have collected 13 points from a possible 18 in their last six games (4 wins, one draw and one loss), dropping only five points.

Power Dynamos on the other hand have only managed one win in their last six games with three draws and two losses. They have only collected 6 points from a possible 18.

Zesco United are third on the log with only 5 points separating them and log leaders Sensational Zanaco. Team ya Ziko do however have two games in hand. Power Dynamos are sixth on the log with 51 points, Six short of log leaders Zanaco.

Zesco United

Jesse Jackson Were – These days it is rare to talk about Zesco United without his name coming up. The Kenyan talisman has been Zesco United’s biggest threat upfront and will surely be one to watch later today.

David Owino – The man from Kenya has been a pillar and rock solid in that defence. With the likes of Larry Bwalya, Godfrey Ngwenya, Alex Ng’onga and Luka Lungu all looking for goals, the man nicknamed Calabar will have to be at his best.

Kondwani Mtonga- The old man who seems to be getting better with age will also need his experience to stop the intelligence and creativity.

Larry Bwalya – The talented left footer is usually the brain behind most Power attacks. Today his creativity has to really come to the party or else Power Dynamos will lose a second derby with three days.

Benson Sakala – Arguably the second best defensive midfielder in the league, Sakala has to stop the likes of Burundi international midfider Enock Sabukuma. He needs to make sure he provides proper cover for his back four.

Billy Mutale – One of the best defenders in the league but Billy is known to make careless tackles, something he might want to put on hold at least for this match as Zesco United will be looking for any chance to get on the score sheet.

Power need a win to have a realistic chance of winning the league but they are facing an uphill battle having failed to beat Zesco United in the last 5 games with only one draw. However if we go as far back as thhe 2010 season both teams have won 5 matches apiece and drawn the other 5 games.
