Egypt, Uganda to play at 2017 Cosafa U20 Championship
Egypt and Uganda will play in the 2017 Men’s U20 Cosafa Cup Championship as guest teams.
In a communication obtained by zambianfootball.co.zm from Cosafa, the North Africans and East African countries will join up with 10 other Southern African sides which will be hosted by favorites and current champions Zambia.
The 2016 Zambia U20 team that played at this championship beat South Africa in the finals. Boyd Musonda was the key player for Zambia scoring in the final and he was named the Most Valuable Player at the tournament.
The Beston Chambeshi coached team went on to win the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament months later and were quarter finalists at the World Cup.
The draw for the first round group stages will be held next week with the 12 teams to be placed in three pool each containing four sides.
The group winners will then advance to the semifinals along with the best runner-up.
The matches will be played at two venues in Kitwe, the Arthur Davies Stadium and Nkana Stadium, with the potential for the final to be staged at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The tournament will be played from December 6-16.
