EAGLES TO DIG DEEP, ZESCO AND ZANACO GUARANTEED PROGRESSION

The inter-club competition will be in full swing as Zambian clubs aim to go beyond the preliminaries, Green Eagles will have to dig deep for them to reach the group after they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Angolan outfit Premeiro de Agosto while Zesco United and Zanaco FC are expected go through.

The National service sponsored side failed to utilize the home advantage but still have a realistic chance of overturning the scoreline. If they can replicate the performance they put up away at Orlando Stadium that is to play as a team then they can upset 1° de Agosto.

In the first half at Heroes stadium, Aggrey Chiyangi’s boys were so awful and uneconomical with the ball, they lost possession in the areas where they should have commanded, the midfield was so porous. They would start something nice at the back but still lost possession cheaply.

In the second half, the Kawale boys would have scored even more than 5 goals but the Agosto goalkeeper commanded his line and produced some excellent saves to deny Eagles. Frustration started to raise amongst the players.

But if Spencer Sautu and Amity Shamenda can explore like dynamites in the flanks then Eagles will stand a better chance of scoring more goals, Tapson Kaseba should be clinical in front of the goal.

Zesco United managed to salvage a draw away in Tanzania against Young African, new boy Thabani Kamusoko equalised right at the stroke of injurey time, the Zimbabwean exquisite shot cancelled out Patrick Sibonana first half penalty.

There is so much to play for but Zesco United are expected to book themselves a spot in the group stage of Africa’s most prestigious competition.

In the previous edition, Zesco United fail to progress into the group after drawing at home then went on to lose away in Congo to TP Mazembe. They drop into the second tier of the continental show piece.

Zanaco FC managed to beat Bolton City Youth Club away in Mauritius 2-1, Tafadzwa Rusike and Rodger Kola scored those important goals for the Bankers, Mpoue scored a consolation goal for Bolton City.

The Bankers will be back for the return match at Heroes stadium, nothing short than going through is expected from them.
