EAGLES CAN WIN THE LEAGUE…Says Major General, expects CAF qualification again
LIVINGSTONE — Zambia National Service Deputy Commandant Major General Alick Kamizhi said Green Eagles are capable of winning the league and throws a gauntlet at them to clinch another CAF qualification as the 2019 Super Division burst into life.
Major General Kamizhi was the guest of honor at the 2018 Green Eagles Awards gala held at ZNS Officers Mess in Choma yesterday.
Addressing the players, the Major General said Eagles are now a team to beat – as such he and other sponsors expects them to achieve a similar feat of last season.
And the Major General expressed profound regrets that the club failed to meet the CAF standards – which forced them to shift from their traditional venue at Independence Stadium to Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
“You are now the spotlight and come 2019 FAZ MTN Super league, you will be the team to beat. As the command as well as other sponsors we expect nothing less than another spot in Continental platform,” he said.
“With the kind of skill and experience you have accessed, we know and believe that you are capable of winning the league title at the same time playing continental football. You are therefore urged to take each game seriously.
“As sponsors we deeply regret the decision to move all matches from Choma’s Independence Stadium to Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka. This was caused by various reasons. I want to assure you that we have learnt our lessons and we are committed to improve in areas where we need to.”
Major General Kamizhi called upon the corporate business and individuals with the love of the game to help them improve the Independence Stadium to the international standard.
“However this cannot be archived by Zambia national services alone. Therefore we wish to call upon the corporate business or indeed individuals who have the love of the game at heart, to come on board to help Choma’s Independence Stadium to reach the international standard. So that in future games, regardless whether they are local or international can be played in Choma,” he said.
Green Eagles Captain Ceasor Hakaluba was awarded best player of the year, Bonface Sunzu most consistency player and crowd favourite Mateo Ndashe bagged the Chairman’s award. The golden boot award went to former Eagles player Tapson Kaseba and Coach Aggrey Chiyangi went home with the Commandant accolade.
Meanwhile the Major congratulated coach Aggrey Chiyangi for being crowned best gaffer in Zambia at the 2018 FAZ/MTN Super Division Awards gala, a week ago.
“Finally, I want to congratulate Coach Aggrey Chiyangi for winning the best coach award. Well deserved and well done. Continue were you have left last season. You have managed to create a team from nowhere. This is not a mean achievements,” he said.
