Cosafa: Zambia crush Mozambique to storm semifinals

The Zambia women national team has qualified to the semi finals of the 2018 edition of the Cosafa Women’s Championship with a resounding 3 – 0 win over Mozambique.

The She-polopolo struggled in the first half but went ahead in additional time just before the half time through Rachel Nachula.

Despite missing skipper Misozi Zulu and midfielder Rhodah Chileshe due to injury, the Beauty Mwamba coached side rose to the occasion with Mary Mwakapaila netting with a low drive in the 73rd minute.

Barbara Banda who has been outstanding at the tournament so far sealed the victory when she scored Zambia’s third in the 84th minute in a game midfielder Hellen Chanda was named player of the match.

Zambia qualified top of group B with a 100% record without conceding a goal.

In the other game, Cameroon walloped Lesotho 6 – 0 to pick the best runners-up spot and set up an encounter against Zambia. The two also met in the group stages with Zambia winning the game 1 – 0 via a Lushomo Mweemba goal,

The Central Africans took their goals tally in three group stage matches to 14, showing their quality and highlighting their status as the third-ranked team on the African continent.

Wednesday will be a rest day and the semifinals will take on Thursday, with both matches to be staged at the Wolfson Stadium.

The first will see Zambia clash with Cameroon at 13h00 (11h00 GMT) and will be a repeat of the second Group B game for both sides.

Zambia triumphed 1-0 on that occasion thanks to a goal from Lushomo Mweemba, and it is likely to be another titanic tussle in their semifinal.

South Africa will face Uganda in the second semifinal at 15h30 (13h30 GMT) and will be in confident mood after they defeated Malawi 6-0 in their final pool game on Monday.

    This is rubbish somehow, how can you meet same team in quarter and semi finals ? they should have swapped. Am sure south Africa is afraid of Cameroon
