Cosafa U17: Zambia hammer Malawi to reach final

The Zambia U17 national soccer team has booked a place in the final of the regional Cosafa U17 championship after they beat stubborn Malawi 2 – 0 in a semi final match played in Mauritius today.

Zambia were on fire from the start and Martin Njobvu wasted no time in putting Zambia ahead in the 4th minute before he completed his brace three minutes later as the Malawian defense was breached for the first time in the competition.

Coach Numba Mumamba restored his first team players the side after he played a second string side for the final group match against Mozambique.

Prince Mumba took advantage of some poor defending in the fourth minute to make an assist for Njobvu who made no mistake to put Zambia ahead and the Nchanga Rangers youngster was again on target this time benefiting from defender Andrew Phiri’s assist.

Malawi dominated play all round but were not penetrating the Zambian defense and it was Zambia who were looking more likely to score when they went forward.

In the second half Zambia were even in better control of the game and there was no coming back for the young flames as the pre-tournament favorites matched on to the finals awaiting either South Africa or hosts Mauritius.
