Copper Queens and Young Copper Queens get Botswana at COSAFA

Zambia Women National team and Zambia U20 Women national team have both been drawn in group B of their respective categories at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship that will be staged in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality from July 31-August 11.

The COSAFA Women’s Championship and the Under-20 COSAFA Women’s Championship will run side-by-side, with the matches to be played at the Wolfson and Gelvandale stadiums.

The Senior national team have been drawn alongside Namibia, Mauritius and Botswana in what seems like an evenly-matched group.

Hosts and Defending champions South Africa have been drawn with debutants Comoros Islands, Malawi and Madagascar.

Group C is headlined by regional heavyweights Zimbabwe and they will take on Mozambique, Angola and Eswatini.

The draw was one of two made at COSAFA House in Johannesburg on Wednesday, with the pools for the inaugural COSAFA Women’s Under-20 Championship to be played in the same city from August 1-11 also drawn.

The Young Copper Queens who will enter residential camp this weekend have been drawn alongside Botswana, Tanzania and Eswatini.

Green Buffaloes coach Charles Halubono will drill the young Copper Queens.

Group A looks a very competitive one, with South Africa up against Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, in what is certainly a Group of Death.

For the senior tournament, only the top team in each pool advances to the semifinals, along with the best runner up while the top two in each group will make it to the semifinals for the U20 tournament.
