Chiyangi happy with CECAFA Kagame Cup performance so far

Green Eagles head coach Aggrey Chiyangi has expressed happiness with his teams’ performance so far at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup in Rwanda. The Choma based side progressed to the quarter-finals after finishing second in group C behind APR.

Chiyangi stressed the fact that this was the first time the Kawale boys were participating in the tournament and that fact alone made their progression to the quarter-finals very impressive.

“Being the first time here, We have done well. The game we played against APR was the worst so far for us, ” he said.

When asked about whether Proline FC offered a big challenge in their final group C game Chiyangi said: “The challenge was there but When a team plays 4-5-2 and you play 4-4-2 its easy for you to defend because they pack the midfield so the only thing you do is make sure they don’t penetrate and that’s what we did.”

In the quarter finals, the Kawale boys will face Kenyan giants Gor Mahia and Chiyangi is happy with the challenge saying it was why they went to Rwanda, To face tough oppositions.

“The purpose for us coming here was to meet the best, We meeting Gor Mahia and we are very happy. We will see how will challenge them. We have watched them and we know they are a good side but we will plan for them, ” he said.

“Generally, we have seen how they play and they have got good players. We have watched them on TV and know that they depend on speed and strength so we will make sure we neutralize it, ” he added.

The captain of the side Ceasor Hakaloba is confident the Kawale boys stand a good chance of progressing to the semifinals.

“The chances are very high. In football anything can happen, What matters is how prepared you are,” he said.

Green Eagles finished second in group C with six points behind Rwandese side APR. The winner of the tournament will walk away with $30 000 as prize money while the runners up will win $20 000. Eagles are using the tournament as preparation for the 2019/2020 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
