Chipolopolo jet off to Algeria
The Zambia national team left for Algeria in the early hours of Sunday morning where they will play that country in the return leg of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers, hours after beating the ‘Desert Foxes’ 3 – 1 at the Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
The Chipolopolo left aboard a chartered Rwanda Airways flight and are expected in Algeria at 0900hrs Zambian time.
Fashion Sakala who received a red card in the game at Heroes stadium did not make the travelling party which saw Wedson Nyirenda carry 23 players.
Coach Nyirenda said earlier on Saturday that his team will rest in Algeria and he would give his lads one training session on Monday before the game on Tuesday.
The Algerians also left earlier on a chartered flight.
Sports Minister Moses Mawere, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and supporters joined the team on the flight.
Zambia put up a strong performance to overcome the Algerians on Saturday to move into second position on four points, five behind leaders Nigeria.
Cameroon are third in the group on two points while Algeria are stuck at the bottom with only one point.
The game in Algeria will be played on Tuesday at 2130hrs in Constantine.
