Chipolopolo captain joins Saudi Arabian club on a one year deal

Chipolopolo Boys captain Ziyo Tembo has joined Saudi Arabian club Al Shoula FC on a one deal with another year to extend from MTN Super League side Zanaco.

The 33 year old has been one of the solid defenders in the league in the last five years.

Prior to his move to the Middle East, he has spent all his entire playing career at Zanaco where he started in the youth ranks at Young Zanaco.

Despite being a late developer, Ziyo went on to become one of the most the consistent players for both club and country.

Ziyo, came to stardom in 2016 after string of impressive performance for Zanaco in both the MTN Super League and CAF Champions League.

Then Chipolopolo Boys George Lwandamina handed him a first call up in July 2016 but it was until Wedson Nyirenda took over that he earned his first international cap at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, three months later against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2-1 defeat in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier.

By the end of the year, Zanaco faithful started calling him ‘Captain Fantastic’.

Despite Congolese striker Walter Bwalya Binene scoring 24, the towering defender pipped the Nkana defender to the Zambian Player of Year award.

On the international stage, Ziyo grew in stature with an old shaky performance.

When Nyirenda decided to axe the last of the old guard members from the Chipolopolo set up, Ziyo was handed the armband.

He become the first locally based player to wear the armband on a permanent basis.

He captained Zambia to the quarter finals of the 2018 CHAN tournament.

He is also a league winner with his boyhood club Zanaco.
