Chipolopolo beat Uganda as Wada picks first win

The Zambia national team bounced back from a string of poor results to pick a morale boosting 1 – 0 win over Uganda in Kampala.

Wedson Nyirenda named a changed side from the last two games leaving veteran goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, Skiper Rainford Kalaba and prolific striker Collins Mbesuma on the bench.

Wada Wada played a double pivotal defensive midfield formation which saw Zesco United duo of Misheck Chaila and Kondwani Mtonga start while Russia based midfielder Chisamba Lungu played in central midfield.

Zambia went ahead through Chisamba whose deflected effort off Insinde beat the Ugandan goalie in the 24th minute.

Nyirenda made a few changes to the team later in the second half with Mweene coming in for Jacob Banda, Rodrick Kabwe for Chisamba, Isaac Chansa for Mtonga, Kabaso Chongo for Simon Silwimba, Collins Mbesuma for Roger Kola and Rainford Kalaba for Fwayo Tembo.

Credit to the coach who used all his 6 substitution option in the game to assess as many players as he could in readiness for Limbe.

Zambia will now focus on the game against Cameroon to be played on 12th November.

  1. congrat guys… Ur players did a very gud job.. I wish u d best in ur match with cameroon.. Our U19 hav a match with cameroon tomorrow

    • Yes Mishek Chaila is a sweating workaholic, the way he played in RSA against Sundown was amazing. Chaila is just looks, that guy can play in Chelsea FC. But I prefer Kondwani pa 6. Nathan scares me of red cards.
One of these friendlies try Sunzu in defensive midfield, because in only position remaining. Ku 3 we have found that Kapumbu and Mbola.

  2. As i always put it, Nathan Sinkala is a passenger in the Chipolopolo setup even Adrian Chama was innocent in that Nigerian game. The defensive midfield was week, hence the defense was exposed. You can not compared Nathan to his elder brother Andrew in his playing days.
He has only impressed me twice when we played Ghana in Kumasi and in the 2012 AFCON Final against the dreaded Ivory Coast in Gabon. The anchorman is the most important member of any team which aims to win. That is the problem we had when we played Nigeria in 1994 final. If John Lungu played in that,Zambia could have won.So Wada insist on defensive midfield it engine room of any team.

  3. Bola ni defence and striking force so what is needed is fwayo tembo kondwani mutonga in first starting and do not substitute these two

  4. Mr Adebayor, Jst Go To Hell Man If U Cnt Apriciate And Learn To Appriciate! Hopfuly U Ar Nt One Of Us ( I Mean One Of Zed Socer Fan Nt Even A Follower). So Next Time Beta Observe Man B4 Posting It On Zamfoot. Us As Long As Its A Win For Zambia, I Hav Got All The Reasons To Celebrat And Apriciat The Team! Thanx Guys For Removing The Mask At Our Faces. Remember, That Uganda Draw Wth Ghana At Their Own Backyard. They Ar Not A Push Over To Say? Otherwize, Its All The Best To The Coperbulet.

  5. Good result but team selection is very poor. They will be exposed in cameroon. Mark my words. You cant experiment when playing big teams. Those who are saying sinkala is not good go hell . That chaila is one of the useless players called up for national duty. The only local player who should play for zambia is fayo tembo. Sunzu is being over used coz he is playing with useless players.

  6. Currently Chaila is a better option than sinkala in that holding midfield. He is one of those few unsung heroes we have at the moment.Good luck to the chipolopolo boys on saturday.

  7. All I can say is teams don’t take friendlies as important as the real tournament. Uganda has a match this weekend, why will they kill themselves like they did in the Ghana? It will be very wrong to think the morale the Ugandans have in the WC qualifiers will be the same in friendly. Who wants to get injured few days before a WC qualifier? They were even trying new players in the Zambia match. You shouldn’t get too comfortable with a narrow 1:0 friendly win n think you can beat Cameroon in their backyard. Heartbreaks are very common with Zambia.

  8. I miss the arguementative nature on this page. Well if Zambia had qualified to the AFCON and had beaten Nigeria, it could had been crazy here. Its going to be a tough game. Cameroon is not very fast like CIV, Nigeria and Maybe Ghana but they are very fortituous in front of goal and have a good conversion rate in front of goal. Dont concede first – Thus an advice.

  9. Fayo, chisamba and evans are doing well and i am still wondering why they were not being called up for national duty.. Mayuka, singuluma, nkasu and mbola should also be called up for national duty ..
