CHAN 2018: Sudan punish Zambia at quarter final stage

The Zambia national soccer team has been eliminated from the on-going CHAN tournament at the quarter final stage after losing 1 – 0 to Sudan on Saturday evening.

The Chipolopolo were undone by a Saifeldin Bakhit goal in the first half and they failed to come into the game to equalize after a lacklustre performance.

Coach Wedson Nyirenda made two changes to his starting eleven which saw Martin Phiri start in a tactical change while debutant John Mwangeni got the nod to fill in at the back in the absence of suspended Simon Silwimba.

It was a nightmare debut for the Nkana defender as he had a shaky game and he was exposed in the 32nd minute when he failed to keep Bhakit in check in the box for the striker to shoot past Toaster Nsabata in the Zambia goal.

Sudan were enjoying possession but Zambia were creating half chances with the closest coming when a header by Kondwani Mtonga from a corner was saved by the keeper.

Nyirenda reshuffled his back-line in the second half bringing Jack Chirwa for Mwangeni. The change saw Chirwa take up a more advanced role in midfield with Mtonga taking the defensive role.

Donashano Malama who had a good dropped to the right back with Adrian Chama restored to the centre back position.

The changes only stabilized the defense but did little to revive the attack as Ernest Mbewe and Augustine Mulenga who have the catalysts of Zambia’s attacking play were well marshalled by the Sundanese defense.

Despite looking better after the changes, the Sudanese easily saw out the game with their goalkeeper not being troubled.

The Nile Crocodiles will proceed to meet the winner between Nigeria and Angola.

The Chipolopolo will be on the next flight home after the poor outting which sees them fall at the quarter final stage again after they were beaten on penalties at the same stage on penalties at the Rwanda tournament, though this time they fell without much of a fight.

Zambia XI V Sudan

Toaster Nsabata – Adrian Chama, Ziyo Tembo, John Mwengani (Jack Chirwa), Fackson Kapumbu – Kondwani Mtonga, Donashano Malama – Ernest Mbewe (Chanda Mushili) , Augustine Mulenga, Martin Phiri, Lazarous Kambole  (Friday Samu)

  1. I AM NOT SURPRISED AT ALL ..WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU HAVE A CLUELESS COACH

WE DID MENTION HERE THAT A BEST GENERAL WILL NOT GO FOR WAR MINUS HIS BEST SOLDIERS…THE ARROGANT, CLUELESS AND INCOMPETENT WADA WADA SHOULD BE FIRED EVEN BEFORE HE REIGNS… THE CHARACTER IS TAKING US ANYWHERE….HOW DO YOU GO FOR CHAN LEAVING THE BEST MIDFIELDER IN THE NAME OF FWAYO AND CLETUS… WE NEED A BETTER, A COACH WHO WILL HAVE NO “IFIFUKWA” WITH PLAYERS.

MY DIAGNOSIS IS THAT WE HAVE A FAKE COACH

  2. I salute donashana malama the revelation at this tournament. This is the right material for rebuilding. Age is still on his side. He should combine with nathan sinkala and mwepu in midfield. Its good zambia failed to progress and i atribute this failure to poor team selection. Please ba faz players who are thirty plus should not play for chipolopolo.. We need new generation.

  3. what did Wada see in that Mwangeni lad! He is beyond description. Wada left good players at home who would have helped us. i think Fwayo, Chota Chama etc would done a better job in mid field than those plangaz he took to Morocco. When players misbehave Wada should find a better way (civilized way) of dealing with such issues than banning players from national squad. He is not bigger than the team. The outing to Morrocco has been an embarrassment to say the least. We won the first two matches because the teams we played against were plangaz just like ourselves.

  4. Wada wada is too small to coach zambia. Their is too much talent in zambia a good coach can build a strong team. This is what king kalu said. There is no zambian born coach who is ready to coach chipolopolo except the legendy himself.. We failed in nigeria and at home.. We lost to mozambique and zimbabwe. And today we also lost to sudan .these are disappointment. To me sudan its an average team…

  5. Never treat national team like your home awe can mwangeni be better than billy mutale amama neo.Pipo we lost this match against Namibia. Always we are building a new team Janza was building Lwandamina was building a new team Wada wada @ building now when are going to have steam that will compete for honors if we keep on building? At the moment we have very good players just find a good coach ba FAZ pliz

  6. I agree Wada mustbmust be fired. The was no cohesion on the midifield. No player maker to detect the game.how can you live chama and tembo and take palookas that mangani boy is a palookas.

  7. I recomment wada to be fired and elevate that former under twenty coach. This coach is an idiot . He illtreats players. He said he will only work with disciplined players. Where are the results…. Pack and go..

  8. Twafwa sure Kuli El Merriek na Al Hilal. With Bazo out injured ,the Sudanese knew thier best strategy was to put AKM under lock n it worked. Not so many will agree but I know we missed energetic Bazo.

  9. honestly…is mwengani better than solomon sakala? to me, solomon sakala has more experience and exposure to pressure that that boy ati mwengani….its the coach’s fault. No fluidity in the midfield whatsoever. Not a single sub made an impact. Youremember Banda from napsa or lameck banda is even way better than samu…..just an opinoin. i wont talk about sate sate or fwayo or ccc. I have seen these players in the super league and some of them are just club material. Do we always have to go with two strikers? The U20 team under chambeshi went with daka upfront with emmanuel banda playing just behind him. My point is that we could have played with one holding midfielder and two central attacking mid-fielders with three up front so that we control more of the ball. My nephew plays FIFA18 and he has more tactics than wedson nyirenda. In the end, he ends up substituting mbewe because he didnt see were the problem was. How do you expect an attacker to be lively when you cant keep the ball??? well….in light of the foregoing, i can safely say that our coach cant adjust tactics and playing styles making him unfit to manage our national team!!!. I could see that he didnt have a plan tonight. Especially in the second half. Mwengani didnt help his cause either.

  10. Zambia were too proud and so underrated the Sudanese. And Zambia was severely punished. No team at this stage should be underrated. It is a simple primary school PE lesson taught. Mere seeing the all white outfit should have sent a signal that they mean biz. Any mistake you are gone and Zambia defender made that silly mistake and that was that. Next time. Bye bye for now. I wish Nigeria all the best vs Angola. Then we can start talking about Sudan.

  11. I watched the Zambia vs Sudan match and though i am Nigerian, i truly wanted Zambia to win. Unfortunately, the Zambian coach threw the match away. Sudan didn’t do enough in my opinion to have won the match but the Zambians could not find a way through the cluster that Sudan employed. With better tactics Zambia would have wrapped up the match. Good luck with the AFCON qualifiers.

  12. I agree with u Sudan did not play like they played against Morocco, Zambian players were too slow with John mwangeni failing to the ground every time the ball comes towards him maybe he was trembling at his debut true Solomon sakala could have been better.

  13. TRUE SOLOMON SAKALA WOULD HAVE DONE A FAR MUCH BETTER JOB THAN THAT SEEMINGLY INSANE LAD WHO WAS FALLING ON HIS OWN. HOW MUCH DO SOME OF THESE PLAYERS GIVE TO THE COACHING BENCH FOR THEM TO BE ON THE TEAM SHEET. IF I, AS A LADY IM ABLE TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG ABOUT TEAM SELECTION WHAT ABOUT THEM WHO ARE WITH THE BOYS 24 HOURS A DAY! I SUSPECT THEY DO THAT IN EXCHANGE FOR A BENEFIT WHICH WE ARE NOT AWARE OF.

  14. Wada Wada is stuborn, poor player selection and poor tactics. How do you justify the inclusion of Mwangeni? Midfield without an attacking and creative player and Namibia and Sudan just cut off the wing play of Augustine and Ernest and the game was won by Sudan but Wadawada couldn’t see that. The coach must fired, he said his target was to bring the trough, so coach what is the story now?

    • I did not know who Mwangeni was, till those blunders of failing when under pressure even uprooting grass on the nice and expensive turf! At national level, that was saddest nightmare for him. He may be a good upcoming defender at Nkana, the shoes were too big for him I forgive him. From this experience I think if he works hard with next exposure at continental club level, he will be a marvel to watch even later in national colors, he has the height and stamina. I take the positives the Nsenga’s say “Mwanalume ni kunyatiwa” meaning “for you to be a man, you need to be bitten first”. I am not a supporter of Nkana, but Mwangeni, the sky is the limit work on your balance when under pressure! This season I will make sure I watch local football, so that I am not surprised by a name like Mwangeni! I will be a regular visitor to Nkoloma, Heroes Stadium, not sure of Woodlands? It’s a pity even my children (2 boys) were sleeping when I was agonizing only to displace me for their Goddess of European Teams on DSTv after the Zambia vs Sudan match. I have made a point that I will not support these foreign teams, Zambia for me is first…

What about WADA, I sympathize with him and the bench as the match was lost in the dressing room and confirmed on the pitch. WADA has struggled to find replacement for striking positions left by Brian Mwila and Justin Shonga, these were key to CHAN qualification and even showed their caliber during World Cup matches with Algeria and Nigeria. We are too fresh from our marvelous U20 Team and we are failing to absorb this calamity! For Zambia, we go back to the drawing board and start now planning for AfCON in a months time. Long live Zambian Football!

Some football commentators have cried out loud that the CHAN should include all players playing within the continent. To me this makes sense as there is no difference between TP Mazembe, Orlando Pirates, Zamarek, Enyimba, Zanaco, ZESCO, … the list goes on, they all share the same challenges. But when you talk of European Teams, then you see the real difference in style, management, finance,… It is my hope that Ahmed (CAF Boss) can re-look at CHAN competition again. Egypt was not interested in CHAN till now as they would find their National Team playing (same Team and players) playing in CHAN, AFCON and World Cup matches.

  15. well said
But we already said before they even left. How can a normal couch fail to see talent in fwayo tembo. Sate sate and others who were left behind? Is it corruption. Maybe let chambeshi take the lead or even the fugitive johson bwalya may need this job

  16. Wada Wada is stubborn & lacks tatical acumen. He is too one dimensional with no plan B, the Nambia game exposed our weakeness yet he didn’t pick anything from that game. What is even worse is his selection of the team. We’ve always said that Simon Silwimba is not a good player so when you as a coach make changes to a team let the person that replaces Silwimba not be worse than Silwimba himself….

  17. FIRE THIS GUY BEFORE HE GETS ON THE FLIGHT BACK HOME. SAVE THE COUNTRY FROM FURTHER MISERY.

We need to qualify to Afcon otherwise BESTON CHAMBESHI’S GOOD WORK WITH THE
U.20 TEAM WILL BE IN VAIN.

ZAMBIA DESERVES BETTER. OUR YOUNG TALENT DEDERVES A BETTER COACH.

KEEP HIM & kiss good bye to Afcon 2019.

  18. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: ZAMBIA NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM (CHIPOLOPOLO) POSITION HEAD: HEAD COACH, DEFENCE: LEFT BACK AND RIGHT BACK,MIDFIELD: OFFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS AND TRIKERS. PLEASE NOTE THAT FOLLOWING PLAYERS AND COACH WILL NOT RENEW THEIR CONTRACT WITH CHIPOLOPOLO WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT UPON ARRIVAL AT KK INT’ AIRPORT AND WE WISH THEM THE BEST IN THEIR ENDEAVAOURS 1. Silwimba Simon 2. Fackson kapumbu 3. Mwangeni 4. Mtonga 5. Samu 6.katiba 7. Martin 8. Wadada and the rest report for work if not mentioned.

    • Spot on! Wedson should never be near any of our national teams. This includes the womens’ teams.

FAZ must do the right thing and fire this man. Keep him far from football. Its time! We have seen enough. Zambia needs a motivated & progressive minded coach who will build on the success we have had with our U.20 and Premier League.

  19. Wada is a cluelessess coach. Arrogant for nothing. Those were not the best players Zambia has to offer. He left roanald state stat, fwayo, clatous etc to take use those blunt strikers. Kambole, samu and phiri are not national team standard strikers. Wada should go. Its time to get a coach who can read games and pick players based on merit. Arrogance is not needed herer

  20. waiting for a comment from the coach. mwalaumfwa ati we did well. by the way that’s how far they predicted they would go.quarter finals….that talks volume.

  21. We clearly lacked a player to create chances. You need natural mudfielders for this job not makeshift ones. Cletus Chama is currently the best prospect for this role. That matter of discipline is an administrative issue which can be handled without ruining the boy’s career and denying Zambia the services of such a talent. In europe you hear about fines, suspensions for such and such a period but here we are quiet about what the the punishment for cletus, Fwayo and Kalaba is. Is it pepetual ? the nation needs to know.

  22. Wada this loss to sudan is on you i’m taking nothing from sudan congratulations but we should at least show gritt and passion and winning when we play them, coach your tactics where wrong, poor team selection wada do the zambian thing of forgiving your lost sons CCC,Fwayo,Mutale and Sinkala cause clearly us fans have seen where the team is missing leadership and quality, enough with this rebuilding.#Wearezambian

  23. The thing is you are all angry and burning with wrath please calm down folks the loss is painful but it is not the end of the road. For me I would state frankly that Wada is not bad all he needs is support from both Fans and FAZ. Whilst I agree that there were very talented players like Fwayo, CCC etc who were left behind, the thing is some players lack consistence and discipline. Our National Team need to be built around players with strong personalities, morals and skills, players who can follow the Coach’s instructions this is what made the U20 successful.
In as much as we might think the omitted players like CCC are pivotal to our success they also very detrimental in a long run as their behaviours cleaves as a cancer to the young players so the time to change the mentality is now its better to mourn now whilst breading a myriad of mentors than celebrate with a bunch of disciplined rascals.
Our Players mindsets towards winning and patriotism as a whole should change! what am I saying; if a players becomes an icon He/She ceases to be their own their glory is public and shared for example if AKM scored a brace and Chipolopolo won yesterday the Glory was going to be for Zambians the same if He was signed by an European big Club his prowess would be shared by Zambians and the whole Africa. This principal, Kalaba, does not understand I may say maybe only Chris Katongo understood it. Wada I feel understands this principal also, it takes time to enshrine this principal into Players and I am happy to state that P Daka understands fully this principal as you could hear it from his statement when He won the award of the Young African Player of the Year, the boy is wise no wonder He survived the insults from the “fire cracker” bloggers on this site.
