Champions Again!! Kalaba, Kabaso, Sinkala lead Mazembe to Confederations Cup title

DR Congo giants TP Mazembe on Saturday evening were crowned CAF Confederations Cup Champions after they held South Africa’s SuperSport United to a 0 – 0 draw to win 2 – 1 on aggregate.

It’s was a resolute defensive display by Mazembe whose fulcrum is built around the Zambian trio of Kabaso Chongo in Central defense,  Nathan Sinkala in defensive midfield while skipper Rainford Kalaba in an attacking midfield role.

The three were named in the starting XI for both legs and it was Kalaba and Sinkala who posed the early threat in the game.

Despite SuperSport dominating, the experience from Mazembe who were playing in their 10th final in 8 years reigned.

Kalaba lasted 60 minutes while Kabaso was red carded in the 82nd minute.

Singuluma did not make the squad but will still get his medal.

This is Mazembe’s 10th title in Africa.

Awesome news for our men, they have something to show for this year.

  2. Zambian Buffalo says:

But first half Mazambians dominated play and Kalaba missed a one on one with a keeper to bit but balooned on top of the bar. I was very disappointed.

  3. GSK 11 says:

Congratulations TP Mazembe- combining skill with experience in a hard fought final – deserved winners!
Rainford and co are very under-rated by some biased commentators like the BBC- how many medals has captain Kalaba got now???

  4. Nice to hear that. This is what i pointed out in my last article and contribution for the under twenty. I personally fail to understand the criteria of player selection and on what basis. Is it on wako ni wako, or players from the club that i coach or nepotism? napapata ba Zed njafweniko to answer this question. Why i have said so is because we have heard and seen what other players are doing in their respective clubs and yet we are picking players with questionable skills. We all know that we have a problem in our defence especialy our central mid field, and yet we have our own in the name of Kabso Chongo. In the mid field we have mwepu, but if he has an injury we start complaining that we have lost because we did not have brain box and yet we have Nathan Sinkala who has been a darling all the times and has proved himself to be a darling even at TP Mazembe. We have a problem of front line coordination and yet Kalaba is there. Ala bane in the world of soccer, experience matters. look at our friends in west africa and the crop of players they are using. Same old folks in the likes of OBI Mikel an yet imwe at Kalaba Nakula. For the sake of our nation ba Wada Wada twamipapata call players who will elevate the name of zambia unlike those personal differences that you have with some few senoir players. Always sitting in the terraces does not mean we do not see what is going on. Let us be patriotic for the sake of our nation unlike individual egos that bet on making our country loosing games unnecessarily. I hope Mr. Kamanga you are reading some of these articles.

  5. Kabaso Chongo behaviour and reaction after been red carded was unprofessional, unsportsmanship and a shame to the good name of football. Sinkala I think is still good but Kalaba nowadays cant even last 90 minutes. Congrats to the boys and Mazembe, the second leg for Mazembe was impressive than the one they played at home.

  6. Ngake says:

All of these guys should be in the chipolopolo squad. You cannot be picking Adrian Chama ahead of Kabaso. You cannot pick Donashano ahead of Sinkala. You cannot have Ernest Mbewe ahead of Kalaba. The selection of players for chipolopolo especially the backup members is bordering on ridiculousness.

  7. discipline says:

I have never been a fan sinkala, boy or boy now am he should called for next national match as in for middle raising and 60 minutes kalaba am spitical.

  8. Baba says:

Believe in smart wada. Stupid believe in how quickly we have moved. Another gear please! The ecposedand those who destroy the camp have no place please. Another gear please. Wada!

  9. Baba says:

We are moving on the FIFA ladder. Please find some initiative to keep football grounds with short grass so that boys don’t stop playing in the rain season. Countrywide program please.
