Chambeshi cagey over selection for Madagascar semifinal

Chipolopolo coach Beston Chambeshi is cagey as to whether he will make any adjustments to the team after they stuttered against Namibia in Saturday’s 2018 COSAFA Cup quarterfinal before advancing on post-match penalties.

The four-time champions toiled to a 4-3 shootout win over Namibia following a 0-0 draw at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Chipolopolo face Madagascar on Wednesday in their penultimate stage tie at the same venue.

“It is too early to say and we have just played the first game so we have to hold on to the team that played on Saturday unless they are injuries,” Chambeshi told COSAFA.com after Monday morning training in Polokwane.

“But we would like to stick to the team because we don’t have any time to make changes.”

Meanwhile, Chambeshi has disclosed that midfielder John Chinagndu and defender Isaac Shamujompa are fit for selection against Madagascar.

Chingandu limped off in the 69th minute of the quarterfinal tie and the Zesco United midfielder was replaced by Nkana striker Ronald Kampamba.

Shamujompa has been certified fit following his recent recovery from Malaria and was on the sidelines against Namibia.

“Shamujompa, who was sick, is better and is training with us and John Chingangu who suffered a knock on Saturday is also back training with us,” Chambeshi said.

  1. self made remember your words by the end of cosafa tournament. this man cannot coach a big team like Zambia my bro. just wait when they play Madagascar you will restract your sentiment bit by bit. he doesn’t have sharp strikers in this team . kambole and sate sate can’t be trusted. they failed to score against Namibia even missed a penalty this kambole.

  2. Coach, you have my hundred percent support except for that but John Chingandu, don’t you see how he balloons clear goal’s? Talk ti him coach, the boy is pathetic at goal.

  4. The boys are playing together for the first time. They need time to gel then they start scoring. So far chambeshi demonstrate that he is a good coach. We are all waiting for results but lets judge him with his team selection. This man is good

  5. we don’t have good players compared to Zimbabwe. So just use which ever player is available.otherwise Zimbabwe are better prepared for the cup. What ever the case best of luck chipolopolo. We will be better in years to come

  6. Madagascar are tactically good, and our coach should put players who are fast. Please let shamojopa partner with Ziyo Tembo.

  7. There is something wrong with local players in Zambia. Struggling to beat the likes of Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Malawi lol. These are teams we used to crush even using the Zambia B team or even a club, but now we can’t. No one should tell me these guys have improved as there is nothing there to show for that

What is wrong then??? With the influx of foreign players in the Zambian league, expect more trouble. Mark my words. FAZ need to look at this issue critically.

Employ a non-Zambian coach and not a coach who picks players that are warming the bench at the club he is head coach. Never heard of it

For god’s sake COSAFA is nothing to some of us. We are a country that won AFCON with only 2 or 3 players playing their trade in Europe

We are a country that has been present at AFCON several times. With the exception of SA and Zimbambwe the rest are useless teams that we cant learn anything new by playing them. To the contrary it is them who are benefiting. Watch the Nigeria Vs Zambia game (World cup Q game and you will see how far we can reach

    • In football there is nothing like you cant learn a thing from minnows. Humble yourself Mr. Kafusha.
Take a look at the Zambian Premier league. Its composition is such that we have big and small teams. Is it not so? It is the same for all national leagues as well CAF and FIFA tournaments. Never shun the minnows in the same way Zambia has never been shunned by the giants you have played against.( Brazil).

  8. Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa should consider leaving COSAFA and join the East Africa cup where there are teams like Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and influence DRC Congo to join as well

  9. Viva COSAFA. Our brothers and sisters. Our blood. We build together. Economic-wise and so on and so forth. SADC. One passport. One visa. Way to go. Lol ba justice.

  10. Zambia is quite alright good team bt nt dat much.if pipo watched de previous game we had wth Namibia properly den can bare witness wth me..dat team wasn’t much strong to take us for penalty shoot out..our front line is totally poorly arranged . maybe by the grace we wl win Madagascar bt nt skill…zambia not strong enough jst to be sincere

  11. Whoever is representing Africa at world this is your time. Play with heart. Watch against those who do other things other than just play football. Like hanging up against the ref. Disrupting okay. Running to the ref. Staring into other players faces. Let’s just play football together…

  12. Chambeshj is a below average coach. He did not see anything wrong with his teams perfomance. That’s how bad he is.

  14. Chambeshi was assistant to coach ,therefore they must be consistent in the selection of players and the formation of play.Chembeshi is just good @ team spirit not techniques. Just fit to be a physiotherapist not a coach
