CECAFA Kagame Cup hands Eagles defense and striking homework
The Zambian Representatives at the annual inter-club tournament, CECAFA Kagame Cup, Green Eagles ended their first participation by beating AS Maniema by 2 Goals to nil to win Bronze.
The Kawale Boys had a Wonderful tournament with only two defeats to their name losing one group game, 1-0 to APR and A semifinal seven-goal thriller at the hands of eventual champions KCCA.
Kennedy Musonda and Amity Shamende have been prolific for the Choma based side leaving the tournament with 3 goals apiece.
Head Coach Aggrey Chiyangi described the tournament as being very competitive especially that all teams put up their best performances with massive experience taken back to their domestic leagues. He went on to appreciate the invitation extended to his team.
Asked about the performance at the tournament, The Eagles gaffer believes the tournament has opened their eyes.
“The Tournament has given us an eye-opener on the Defence and striking Force, we need to have the right technic to be able to advance in our future challenges as a team. When we get home those are areas we need to work on before the champions league presumes,” he said.
Chiyangi sighted mental strength as a key part in the teams’ failure to win the tournament. Chiyangi acknowledged the massive talent at the tournament but made it known he’s team was a service team and wouldn’t consider any foreign players for any transfers.
Eagles star player Spenser Sautu described the tournament as a stepping stone to the preparations of the Champions League.
The Kawale boys were using the tournament as preparation for their CAF Champions League campaign. They will open their campaign with a two-legged tie against PSL giants Orlando Pirates.
Eagles walked away with bronze medals and pocketed $10 000 for finishing in third place.
