CCC: Mazembe in group stage, Lwandamina’s Yanga wired in Algeria

TP Mazembe qualified to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup while George Lwandamina’s Young Africans tumbled to a 4 – 0 loss in Algeria to drop out of the competition at the pre-group stage round.

Mazembe carried a comfortable 2 – 0 lead into the second leg and they managed to snatch a goalless draw away against JS Kabylie.

Coach Mihayo named Rainford Kalaba in the starting line up together with Nathan Sinkala.

Given Singuluma made the trip but did not make the bench.

Kabaso Chongo was on the bench for the game.

Mazembe captain Rainford Kalaba was substituted in the 66th minute.

Lwandamina will be feeling the pressure in Tanzania after he saw his team dumped out via a 4 – 1 aggregate scoreline by MC Algers.

Both Justin Zulu and Obrey Chirwa were part of the team in Algeria but it was the latter that was at the centre of controversy before the trip for the second leg.

Chirwa had refused to travel with the team together with Togolese defender Bossou citing unpaid dues.

He joined the team which travelled in two batches one via Dubai and another through Turkey later and he was in the starting line up.

Gabon champions CF Mounana made a historic qualification to the group stage after they played to a goalless draw away against Asec Mimosas to qualify 2 – 1 on aggregate.

Alex Ngonga who is on their books is still holed up in Kitwe where he has been spotted training with Power Dynamos.

Mazembe and Mounana join Zesco United, MC Algers, Recreativo do Lobolo, Smouha, KCCA, Club Africain,  Mbabane Swallows, CS Sfaxien, Platinum Stars, Horoya, Hilal Obayad, Supersport United, FUS Rabat and Rivers United in the last 16 of the competition.

  1. zamfoot what are you trying to say @ George lwandamina’s side dumped out of competition via 4-1 scoreline by asec mimosas and Gabon champions fc mounana eliminate asec mimosas via 2-1 on aggregate, now is asec mimosas from Algeria or ivory coast, pliz zamfoot don’t mislead pipo coz asec mimosas is from ivory coast not Ku Algeria

  2. Good lesson 2 lwandamina the team u dumped zesco last year is now smilin be aware anytime u “re out of zat job

  3. Its not Asec mimosa but they lost to Mc Algers of Algeria zamfoot you should also include supersport united of south Africa they have also qualified to the group stages. its will be interesting game to see zesco united vs TP mazembe or zesco united vs supersport united I hope zesco will face any of the two in the group stages but zesco have what it takes to win this tournament in the sense that they are an exprience team full of international players

  4. In the zesco unted team I was very impress with the performance of fackson kapumbu I think we have a very good left fullback in kapumbu he overlap and defended very well his crosses were very good for the first time I was able to see some acurate crosses from a zambian player he should continue with the same performance

  5. Kalengos leopards was wired by swallows of Swaziland after they, Kalengos, won the first leg in very biased manner and also assisted by a francophone ref watched some high lights on supersport soccer Africa

    • Thanks Discipline. That’s too bad for Kalengo. Hopefully he can find his form and make his way into the Chipolopolo setup again.

  6. From the proceeding in a Supersport documentary, it appears Kalengo’s Leopards are a very weak and very crooked team. Even the 2012 CCC they won was under very mysterious circumstances. They seem to have been making visiting teams face unacceptable and serious hardships.
The way the ref and his assistants were shown to have handled the Leopards vs Swallows match was unacceptable. Since the game is now in the public domain at Supersport, who FC Leopards also mistreated sometime back, I am sure that ref will soon face CAF music.

All in all, now that pretenders have been separated from serious contenders, let the games begin.
