CAF CL: Zesco bundled out after draw with Etoile du Sahel
Zambian league champions Zesco United have bowed out of the 2018 CAF Champions League after they finished third in group D which sees them fail to make it to the quarter finals of the competition.
The poor home form continued to haunt Zesco when they again failed to pick maximum points against Etoile du Sahel who held them to a 1 – 1 draw at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Red hot striker Lazarous Kambole put Zesco ahead in the 8th minute when he smashed home the opener but the George Lwandamina coached side failed to kill off the game despite creating numerous chances.
The Tunisians where mainly kept at arms length from Jacob Banda’s goal but looked threatening from set pieces.
Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when the Zesco United was caught ball watching from a freekick on the left for the visitors to level matters through a Bedoui heasder.
Etoile then managed the game very well from then on to ensure they proceeded to the next round without a loss.
Zesco were also keep an eye on the other game, as they hoped for a Mbabane Swallows win if they were to stand any chance of qualifying despite the result, but two goals from Bitumba and Geraldo ensured that Primero de Agosto join Etoile in the quarter finals with a 2 – 1 win over Mbabane Swallows.
It has been a poor run for Zesco who have failed to win at home this season managing only one win away against Mbabane Swallows, three draws and twp draws.
Etoile finish on top of group D on 12 points, Priemero de Agosto on 9 points, Zesco on 6 points while Swallows are the tail-enders with 4 points.
