CAF CL: Zanaco arrive in Rwanda for APR match

Zambian Super League Champions Zanaco have arrived in Rwanda ahead of the CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg game against Armé Patriotique Rwandaise Football Club (APR FC) of that country.

The 30-man delegation comprising of 18 players and 12 officials left Kenneth Kaunda International Airport aboard a Rwandair flight at 10:14hrs CAT for the two hour flight.

Coach Numba Mumamba carried exactly the same players who battled to a goalless draw against APR at Nkoloma Stadium.

The newly signed foreign players in the team who watched from the stands over the weekend have not yet been cleared to play for Zanaco and are not part of the traveling party.

This implies that apart from the hiccups in preparations which saw friendlies against Mamelodi Sundowns and TP Mazembe all cancelled, Zanaco will be missing about four of the players who were key to their plans.

However, Spartak Moscow new signing Fashion Sakala has made the squad together with the other U20 colleagues, Managani Banda and Boyd Musonda.

Zanaco can qualify with a scoring draw in the second leg.

The game will be played at the Amahoro Stadium on Saturday, February 18.

Midfielders: Richard Kasonde, Augustine Mulenga, Attram Kwame, Boyd Siame Musonda

  1. This zanaco team looks weak I don’t see them qualifying the people who are in charge of administration at zanaco should be serious with the way they are runing this club how do you lose players like this when you are participating in the champion league.any way zanaco is representing my country so for the sake of partiriotism I will just hope that they should carry the day in Rwanda

  4. Clatous Chama dumps Ittihad before kicking the ball

After weeks of speculation over his future at Egyptian club Ittihad, ex-Zesco United midfielder Clatous Chama’s brief love affair with the club has come an end.

The Zambia midfielder joined The Egyptian club on a free transfer from Zesco but had not been registered after a contractual rift between the two parties barely three months after agreeing terms with the Alexandria club.

“Chama, 25, had reportedly informed the Zambian Football Federation to refrain from sending his ITC to his new club and has missed the registration period,” Egyptian football website Kingfut.com reports.

“What had remained was the player giving back the club the financial amount which he received upon signing, and now the sum has been reimbursed.”

Chama was a key player in Zesco’s 2016 CAF Champions League semifinal success scoring four goals in the tournament.

  5. Good Luck to Zanaco, as they represent my beloved.
I am just amazed at the size of the travelling contingent, 30.
18 players and 12 officials. 1 official for every 1 and a quarter player. 1:1.2, that is too much taxpayer’s money being wasted, kwati ebekalateya?
Or are they are paying for themselves? If they are then it is okay.
But if it is the club paying, then that’s too much.

  6. Numba told the minister to go to hell simply for being disappointed with ZANACO.I support the minister all he was saying is that ZANACO would have negotiated with the players packages(bargaining )just to keep them for these games then later on they can be released .Now this coach felt that he was insulted but tomorrow he will see amatako yansoka.
