CAF CL: Zanaco 0 – 0 Yanga (Agg. 1-1) -Player Rater
Zanaco did just enough to qualify to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after they held Young Africans of Tanzania to a 1 – 1 draw in Tanzania before playing to a goalless draw in Lusaka.
Numba Mumba and his technical bench were well aware of the team’s weaknesses going into the tie after they lost seven key players in the team and in Lusaka, it was more a well done defensive display in a game they showed that they need re-enforcement on the offensive part.
Zambianfootball.co.zm looks at how the players rated in the game that shot Zanaco into Africa’s top 16 for the year 2017.
Toaster Nsabata 5/10 – Didn’t have much to do the whole game. Was good at collecting the crosses, a part of the game he has previously lacked.
Taonga Bwembya 7/10 – Looked the most likely to give Zanaco a break. He had the most shots in target from the set pieces. The Yanga goalie thrice spilled his shots for range. He was solid in defense as well and showed excellent recovery even when caught out of position.
Chongo Chirwa 6/10 – Did just enough in his full back position. Hard to be beat and plugged the left back well enough to avoid any crosses.
Ziyo Tembo 5.5 / 10 – Had a busy day tracking Aubrey Chirwa. He was strong in the air and was equal to the task. He at times over committed and was at one poin easily rolled by the striker.
George Chilufya 6/10 – Commanding performance at the back. He was always quick to leave his line to cover the full backs and was solid on his tackle.
Zimiseleni Moyo 4.5/10 – The left back was thrown in he holding role ahead of Richard Kasonde. He covered a lot of ground and was quick to recover into his position. But he lacked the ability to dictate the pace of the game or string passes from deep in midfield and partly was the reason why Zanaco failed to dominate. The fans protested when he was substituted.
Boyd Musonda 4.5/10 – He plays in a more advance role at the club. He kept it simple but lacked the penetrative pass that the strikers would feed on. As U20 Africa Champion, the fans were ever ready to forgive him for glaring errors.
Seth Sakala 4/10 – Played just behind the main striker. Did little to trouble the Yanga defense making Zanaco look like they were a striker short.
Kwame Attram 5/10 – Showed signs of a good striker by picking good positions in the box. Had to clear chances and a half chance which he failed to bury. He needs to improve his conversion ratio.
Augustine Mulenga 6.5 – Looked the most probable in terms of creating something for Zanaco on the left . He relentless at running at his marker and created two chances which went begging. Once he was out, there was no spark in the team.
Ernest Mbewe 6/10 – Workaholic, provided a great balance midfield and effective in popping up on the right with pace in attack. He should have come out with an assist if Attram was more clinical with his finishingle.
Ayubu Lyanga 3/10 – Came in for Augustine Mulenga but did little to change the game
Richard Kasonde 3.5/10 – He came in for Moyo. He just did enough to shield Zanaco to the last whistle of the game.
Kennedy Musonda 4/10 – He came in for Seth Sakala. He was winning the physical battles but he remained far from influencing play where the attack mattered the most
