CAF CL: TP Mazembe pay penalty as Agosto proceed to semis
TP Mazembe paid heavily for missing two penalties in their CAF Champions League Quarter final second leg match against Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto to draw 1 – 1 at home and bow out of the tournament on away goals.
Kabaso Chongo started at the heart of the Mazembe defense with Nathan Sinkala in the defensive midfield role while Rainford Kalaba played in an attacking role.
Mazembe went ahead in the 12th minute but Agosto equalised in the 34th minute.
The Congo giants had a chance to take the lead with two penalties awarded in the 45th and 48th minutes but both Malango and Mputu were denied by an inspired Toni in the Primeiro de Agosto goal.
Kalaba played 46 minutes while Chongo and Sinkala played the entire game.
The Angolans qualified to the quarter finals ahead of Zesco United. They proceed to the semifinals after they drew 0 – 0 with Mazembe in the first leg.
Primeiro de Agosto’s opponents in the final four will be ES Tunis, who won 1-0 in the second leg against Tunisian rivals Etoile du Sahel to sew up a 3-1 aggregate success.
