CAF CC: Nkana set one foot in group stage with win over San Pedro
Zambian Super League giants Nkana FC on Saturday afternoon put one foot into the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup when they beat visiting Ivory Coast Side San Pedro 3 – 0 in the first leg of the penultimate round of the group stage qualifiers.
Nkana dominated the match in front of a packed Nkana stadium and the fans got their full reward with Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba netting the opener in the 43rd minute.
41 year old veteran defender Joseph Musonda made a surprise nod to start in the game and he crowned his appearance with a goal scored in in the 51st minute to go on record as the oldest Zambian player to score in a continental competition.
Substitute Festus Mbewe who replaced Walter Bwalya in the 66th minute completed the rout with an 85th minute hard shot from a tight angle that beat Solly Kodjo in the San Pedro goal to give Nkana a huge advantage going into the second leg to be played next week on Sunday 20th January.
Chisamba Lungu also made a substitute appearance in the second half changed the complexion of the game to give Nkana the game.
Nkana dropped out of the CAF Champions League competition into the Confederations Cup after losing to Simba FC of Tanzania via a 4 – 3 aggregate scoreline
