CAF CC: Green Buffaloes too good for South Sudan’s El Merreikh

Green Buffaloes on Wednesday afternoon silenced visiting El Merreikh Juba of South Sudan with a 2 – 0 scoreline in a preliminary round first leg match of the CAF Confederations Cup played at Nkoloma stadium.

There were few changes to the Buffaloes team that was hard to breakdown in the 2018 league season with Sebastian Mwansa and Steward Chikandiwa who are both new acquisitions in the off season starting.

The first half ended goalless but Buffaloes went ahead in the 60th minute through Friday Samu.

Chikandiwa scored the second in the 73rd minute and the Zambia Army sponsored side held on to the lead to take a 2 goal cushion in the second leg.

The two teams play in the return leg next week in Juba.

The win by Buffaloes completed a good match day 1 performance bu the Zambia clubs who all picked wins in their continental fixtures. Zesco United beat Sonidep 2 – 1 in Niamey, Nkana beat Songo 2 – 1 in Maputo while Green Eagles beat Young Buffaloes of Eswatini in Choma.

  1. Logic says:

This team is from South Sudan and not Sudan. The return leg will be in Juba and not Khartoum. Zamfoot, a tiny bit of research on your part would be helpful to your readers

  2. Kasama Boy says:

For Nkana and ZESCO who won away, one would be comfortable and relax in the next leg. For Kawale Boys and the Buffalo Soldier, who won at home there is need to go with serious caution when they play away.
Some tuma teams do all sorts of things when they are at home.
All in all congratulations to the Zambian “Big 4”.
    I wish you the best.
I wonder how it would feel like if we had all four teams in the group stages. Ni double double tobela ukutamba ama game.
