CAF Awards: Patson Daka is Africa’s best youth player

Zambia national soccer team striker Patson Daka has been named the 2017 Africa Youth Player of the year at the Aiteo CAF Awards gala held in Ghana.

Daka shook off challenges from Krepin Diatta of Senegal and Salam Giddou of Mali to become the second Zambian to win the award after Clifford Mulenga in 2007.

At 19, Daka is already the Chipolopolo’s top striker having come through the ranks at U17 and U20 level.

He was instrumental in helping the U20 national soccer team lift the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

He then led the Zambia U20 team to the 2017 U20 World Cup where Zambia reached the quarter finals.

At club level, he guided his team to the UEFA Youth League Championship scoring in both the semi final and final.

  1. My words when the lad was over critisized and called names was that Zambians should be fair with him atleast by comparing him with his peers not older people. I still maintain that the lad is in the mould of Samuel Eto’o and Benni Mc Carthy.

  2. I was one of those that criticised the boy. Indeed he was rushed to national duties at th time he was not yet ripe.congrats boy Zambia is there again at the world stage. But how could caf not show us any clips of the winners.football awards turned into musical concert.i didn’t like it

  3. I now surely realise that Kalu and his Technical team had a point of building this Boy when they insisted on playing him. If we can have 4 of such kind, Chipolopolo would surely be feared and respected. The question is , who is next after Patson Daka? , Is it Lameck Banda or another unpolished gem is hidden somewhere!

  4. Congratulations Patson Daka and very mature speech from a young man. You are destined for greater things young man. Stay humble and disciplined as you have been. We have been well represented in Patson Daka!

  5. Congrats young man. “I dedicate my award to my late friend and brother…” I have to listen to your words over and over to get some inspiration from that kind of Wisdom. God bless you Patson. And Zamfoot you have been wonderful to create a platform where one can feel part of it – wins, loses, draws, criticism, transfers, pressure – good addition to media. Social. 2017 was another wonderful year Zamfoot. And it is summed-up with Patson’s achievement. Opinion. Award. It is also our achievement as soccer fans, don’t forget about us. Great young man! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Under 20 team. Congrats! Too. The support.

  6. Luckily for Patson, he did not pay attention to professional social media critics who called him all sorts of names and praising him today. The boy would have stopped playing a long time ago because of doomsayers who are quick to change positions. Shame.
