Buffaloes beat Indeni Roses on post match penalties to bag Charity Shield
The two top teams in the Women’s league Green Buffaloes and Indeni Roses took to battle this afternoon in the first ever Women’s Charity Shield Final at Sunset stadium. Green Buffaloes started on a high note while Indeni seemed to struggle a bit in the first few minutes but eventually started to settle.
Both defenses were proving difficult to penetrate but Racheal Nachula put buffaloes in the lead in the 26th minute with a beautiful strike from outside the box beating goalkeeper Annie Namanji. Indeni did not seat back, rather, they attacked till they got the equalizing goal in the 36th minute through Mwaka Mupeta on got on the end of a brilliant counter attack to slide a low shot passed Hazel Nali in the Green Buffaloes goal.
In the second half both teams had a number of chances that went begging. It was a toe-to-toe encounter as both sides kept gping at each other but their defenses were on water tight. Indeni captain Grace Zulu was one of the astounding players as she made a numbers of great tackles that broke down most of the buffaloes counter attacks.
In the dying minutes of the game, buffaloes had a shot on target brilliantly saved by the Indeni shot stopper. The game ended with a 1 all draw meaning penalties would follow. Green Buffaloes won 5-4 on post match penalties as Esther Mukwasa took Indeni’s fourth penalty over the crossbar and that is how Buffaloes were crowned champions of the 2019 Charity Shield Cup with Anita Mulenga scoring the winning penalty.
All in all both teams were Adequately prepared as they put in a great shift. The future in women football is truly Bright.
