Blog: A shout for senior caps

Its another milestone in Zambian football, the u20 have imbued a sense renaissance into nation befuddled by sub-par performances post 2012. So, with all raves heaped on the young guns, who are the most able young guns who can lance a new air into the senior national and in turn revive the senior national team’s fortunes?

EMMANUEL BANDA

Probably the man who changed Zambia’s cause and brought that x-factor to the team. The first game he settled for a berth on the bench. luchanga got the nod, he had an indifferent 30minutes or so and was replaced by the portuguese based playmaker.

Like there has ever being emphasizing ceasing your moments. Banda certainly did that with an outstanding first game, he culminated that by putting Daka through on goal to eventually poke Zambia’s first goal of the tournament.

Its his technical balls that have seen Zambia create, he has that knack to put in the right ball from central midfield. He might be raw on the all-round game but watch out for this gem, he certainly will play for the national team sooner rather than later.

EDWARD CHILUFYA

I look at chilufya and he reminds me of Sadio Mane, the liverpool/senegal forward. What Chilufya brings is that tenacity-the ability to chase lost cause(workaholic) and turn them into half chances for the team.

Modern football has revolved more often and now the hipster genre is pressing football. Its all about pressing your opponents into making mistakes and in turn pounce on their foibles and chastise them.

Chilufya is designed for this genre and his knack to pop out with some vital goals from wing is an asset that the national team currently lacks. There is no doubt he’ll be a mainstay in senior national team in the long haul.

PATSON DAKA

Dana is one who’s divided opinions when he got the nod for the senior national team at the expense of tried and tested. But now the perception is swinging after last year’s run at power dynamos and cosafa heroics.

His showing at the just ended tournament has aided/quashed his critics. A poacher, willing runner, never say die attitude-a variety of his game he’s brought to the fore. No doubt his forays into the national teams have being vindicated with his showing over the course of the tournament.

OTHER NOTES:

After that showing, there is no doubt there are others who might be worth of a place in the senior national team. But by being considerate to the national team’s kinks/foibles, there is no doubt the aforementioned names could prove the ace in the holes in the long run and medium term.

  1. Luchanga deserves a chance….only those who have not seen him play will disagree with me….to that list I would add Mwepu. …We don’t have a creative midfielder in the senior team

  2. Zambia is at it again. Are you not going to talk in anger about the inclusion of the so-called small boys? Wait a bit or if you don’t consider including Prosper ,Chiluya E. Banda, Chilufya/the new Nsofwa ,Mwepu and the Nkana lad who featured prominatly in the back line. That boy is another Elijah Litana.

  3. I guess there is no need to rush them. These boys play well as a group, as a team. I suggest they are taken to Under 23 and move them to Senior as a group. Quite alright, few can be fused into the senior team on temporal basis in positions that need urgent attention. The boys are working like a machine, they know each other well, and after England Camp + Korea experience, they will even be better. As for Senior Team players, let them start buying seed and tools as time to get to their farm plots is almost here. I personally don’t see their positions available in couple of months time. SORRY if that hurts

  4. My choice players revealed from the CAF Under 20 to watch and who can actually fit into senior Squad is Enock Mwepu, E. Chilufya, B. Musonda and E.Banda ….in that order…i will be very surprised and disappointed with these guys dont have decent offers already. too bad Luchanga didnt have enough game time during CAF U20, he should not despair, there is a good reason why he has already been part of the senior squad.

  5. All picks as selected above r a place in the team. Its not suprising that Fashion is conspicuously missing. He needs to learn!

    • I thought Fashion was gaining weight. he needs to watch that. He makes the national team for me. he should also0 concentrate when taking the shot. He also gets some credit for the goal Patson scored in the final because he put pace on the ball and made it bounce just before the keeper hence the keeper spilled it. Patson read it well and moved giving the keeper a split mind and the mistake came. Boys really worked in unison. Actually the whole lot can be selected to the National team.

  6. For me I will settle for F.Sakala, P Daka, E Chilufya and B Musonda (who needs some bits of lessons). On Mwepu he needs maturity otherwise he will go far if not disturbed, P Chilufya is another consideration in defense not forgetting my best goal – keeper (Ichoni mwibala) Mangani Banda – this one we need to invest in him seriously he has excellent reflexes which are rare in most keepers (not too short but very alert and commands the back line well) . I have seen how consistent especially the four Boys have been at their Clubs including their movements on the ball one would agree they are a marvel to watch especially that they are young.

    • I am utterly not refuting the inclusion of Mwepu but all I am saying is looking at him and his position (midfielder – box to box) even his movements you can see that the boy is a complete package. Nevertheless,He needs mentoring and thorough equipping as this position needs a lot of experience and expertise.

  7. @Mweshinho, I second your visionary contribution too! Moving these boys into the senior team as a group will prove to be helpful because of the discipline, the cohesion factor, the selfless attitude and the understanding of one another effect. In the past we have destroyed good teams by assimilating new players who started afresh to learn one another. For example, the 1996 RSA team was one of the best we had but it did not continue as a team after the coach left. Result? Poor! If it is not broken don’t fix it!

  8. As for me I would prefer the all starting eleven of the under20 is graduated in to the senior team so that they may be cohesion and coordination then we should include exprience players like sunzu, kalaba, fwayo, mweene, chisamba, lubambo and mbesuma because these are our best players at the moment let’s mot expriement but let’s build a team

  9. Some suggestions, leaves much to be desired how can you graduate a bunch of lads to the national team to face the likes of nigeria, ageria and likes l for one would prefer it’s done gradual or just one player at time

  10. That’s the way its done every where and in other sports disciplines also, one thing we must not forget is that one must be ready mentally, socially and physically otherwise you might end up grinding a beautiful talent to obliteration.

  11. These young lads are our best players are the moment you can’t compare them with the likes of Adrian chama jack chirwa and mkandiwire, its better we have these young lads than having a bunch of old amateurs in the team.ok mr soccerguru tell me which player can partner sunzu at the back and which striker can lead ou striking force.Ghana did the same thing to their under 20 team that won the under20 world cup and the young lads did very well in the afcon that was hosted by Angola in 2010

  12. Soccer guru I know you have issues with me concerning the name that I’m using but let’s put that aside.let’s present the facts.we are facing crisis in the national team because we don’t have good players let’s talk about our striking force where is mayuka, mbesuma?these are our many strikes but they are not active what about the defenders its only mbola and sunzu who are active these young lads have proved that they deserve. Shout in the national team

  13. Soccer guru I know you have issues with me concerning the name that I’m using but let’s put that aside.let’s present the facts.we are facing crisis in the national team because we don’t have good players let’s talk about our striking force where is mayuka, mbesuma?these are our many strikes but they are not active what about the defenders its only mbola and sunzu who are active these young lads have proved that they deserve a chance in the national team let’s mix the young and the experience

  14. In the national team we don’t have players that we can depend on apart from sunzu, chisamba, kalaba, mbola the rest are struggling for game time at they respective clubs so should we continue using these inactive players at national team?like I have already said let’s mix young and exprience players if you don’t like my opinion its fine

  15. I thought Fashion was gaining weight watch that and dont come back like Mbesuma and Perry Mutapa and Milton Tembo(ukiyafye Mukwina). He makes the national team for me. He should also concentrate when taking the shot, he could have easily been the top scorer – movement is excellent. He also gets some credit for the goal Patson scored in the final because he put pace on the ball and made it bounce just before the keeper hence the keeper spilled it. Patson read it well and moved giving the keeper a split mind and the mistake came. Boys really worked in unison. Actually the whole lot can be selected to the National team – but only after the world cup.

  16. Guys everything in moderation! A year and a half from now some of the U20 will b ready. meantime let tham b the nain component of Cosafa and Chan! Pushed too far too quicky will produce negative results.

    • I concur @ slim. They should go through under 23 olympic qualifiers, all africa games, and whatever tournments organized for their age groups in Europe.
