Big guns record wins while Zanaco’s woes continues
Green Buffaloes continued their winning streak with a win over Zanaco on matchday 14 of the MTN Super League played on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, Zesco United, Power Dynamos and Nkana all picked up wins while the in form Kabwe Warriors were held at home by struggling Napsa Stars.
Joining Warriors as this season’s surprise package are Forest Rangers and Nkwazi who continue to defy odds.
KITWE UNITED 1-2 ZESCO UNITED (Austin Muwowo 42′ | L. Making 53′ [ O.G] Jesse Were 65′)
On loan Nkana winger Austin Muwowo put the Buchi Boys 1 nil up just before the break with a well taken goal.
After the break, the Zambian Champions increased the tempo and got the rewards when the home side scored an own goal.
Kenyan striker Jesse Jackson Were then sealed the victory give minutes after the hour mark.
Zesco maintained top spot on 31 points with a game in hand and having scored 19 goals compared to Green Buffaloes’ 16.
Kitwe United are 12th with 17 points.
NEW MONZE SWALLOWS 0-1 POWER DYNAMOS (Alex Ng’onga )
A lone goal from Alex Ng’onga propelled Power Dynamos to victory in Southern Province.
Power are level on 26 points with arch rivals Nkana but the Wusakile are third thanks to a superior goal difference.
NAKAMBALA LEOPARDS 0-1 NKANA (Walter Bwalya 73′)
With Sate Sate away on international duty, Nkana assistant coach Manfred Chabinga was able to pair Congolese duo Idriss Mbombo and Walter Bwalya upfront.
And it was birthday boy Walter who responded with a second half goal.
Patrick Phiri’s Sugar Boys have just won four matches and are 2 points above the drop zone with 14 points.
GREEN BUFFALOES 1-0 ZANACO (Felix Sitonya 14′ p)
Felix Sitonya scored from the spot to inflict more misery on struggling Zanaco.
Despite pressure from Zanaco, the soldiers showed resilience in front of the watching Deputy Army Commander.
This was Zanaco’ s fifth defeat of the campaign and the bankers are now 8 points behind both Zesco United and Green Buffaloes.
NKWAZI 1-0 BUILDCON (Patrick Musonda 52′)
Nkwazi coach Chris Kaunda’ s fairytaile continued as the Zambia Police outfit inflicted Tenant Chembo’s first defeat since he took over as Buildcon coach.
Nkwazi are a point above Zanaco and one below Forest Rangers while Buildcon are 10th with 18 points.
KABWE WARRIORS 0-0 NAPSA STARS
Tenant Chilumba saw Kabwe Warriors fail to break struggling Napsa Stars’ defence.
Warriors are fifth with 25 points while the pensioners are level on 8 points with Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy.
NCHANGA RANGERS 0-2 FOREST RANGERS (Damian Kola 39′, G. Chisha 50′)
Perry Mutapa’sForest Rangers picked up a routine win over struggling Nchanga Rangers.
Fole Malembe are level on 25 points with Kabwe Warriors.
KYSA 2-0 LUMWANA RADIANTS (F. Mwimanzi 65′, S. Kaunda 70′ [OG])
Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy picked up their first victory of the season after they stunned Lumwana at home.
RED ARROWS 0-0 NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
And finally Red Arrows and Oswald Mutapa’s National Assembly played out to a goalless stalemate in a mini Lusaka derby.
