ZAMBIA forward Justin Shonga has attracted attention of South Africa’s Absa premiership side Baroka after an impressive showing at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Castle Cup in Rustenburg.
And Baroka are close to capturing Green Buffaloes goal-poacher Brian Mwila.
Baroka have offered Shonga, who features for Super Division side Nkwazi, a three-year deal. Shonga, 23, netted three goals at the regional championship in South Africa.
The Absa Premiership outfit have Zambian striker Lewis Macha on their roster.
Nkwazi secretary Davies Chimbwelenge said in an interview in Lusaka on Thursday that Baroka have expressed interest to lure Shonga to South Africa. Chimbwelenge described Baroka’s offer as attractive.
“We have received formal communication from Baroka FC. They have written to us [Nkwazi] and have offered him [Shonga] a three-year contract.
“The deal is almost complete. We have done the groundwork. What is remaining is clearance from the police command, as you may know, he is a police officer,” he said.
Chimbwelenge said Shonga is a quality player who can make it in South Africa.
“We are ready to do business with Baroka. In fact we have another offer from one of the big teams in South Africa but the problem is that we are dealing with an agent. The club itself has not come out in the open. It is better he joins Baroka where he is assured of game time,” he said.
Shonga joined Nkwazi from Chipata Blue Eagles in 2014.
Meanwhile, Baroka have opened negotiations with Buffaloes over the transfer of Mwila. According to kickoff.com, Baroka have advanced in their pursuit of Mwila, who netted twice at the COSAFA Castle Cup.
Mwila also contributed a goal in Chipolopolo’s 2-1 win over South Africa in an international friendly in Rustenburg on June 13.
let them go and improve so that we have many players for our national team. all the best guys.
Meaning will not ve them during the CHAN qualifiers after we progress. hope they will goal after qualifying.
All the best boyz
Yes let him go if that the only offer on the table, but of late zambian players have not been finding it easier in south Africa. meanwhile in another transfer news zanaco striker saith sakala is said to have attract interest from two of north Africans clubs Ahly of egypt and wydad casablanca of morroco but my advise to saith sakala north African especially egypt is not the good destination for zambian players may be just may be let him try morocco
Guys we have other players who can fill the gap players like sate sate, conylade lunchanga, jackson mwanza or even lanzarous kambole of zesco united these guys can do the job in zambia we are not short of talent let the guys go
I am beginning to have more faith in the Zambian league – development wise maybe not financially such that in this case., i would say Shonga should play locally for another two years. How much success in terms of development have we achieved from SA of late ? Mukuka Mulenga, Mweene, Macha, Bornwell Mwape, even the recent travelllers Funga and Sautu are not quite making waves. Lets target Europe as the direct destination. We may not hit mainstream Euro but kuma Eastern, Russia and Scandinavia is a good route.
Well said@pungwa s.a isn’t a good place for Zambians.
They sign for you with an anticipation that you may play better. But the down trek to South has no value to improve your talent. They must not proceed to South.
Stop the down South trek guys. You will get your chance.
I must say … the new strip in the picture above looks really nice. The jersey looks more shiny than before…
Where has Sautu trekked to?!
sautu is within. he is playing under green eagles here in cooma
