Among takes blame away from referee after loss to Shepolopolo

Cameroon Women national team coach Bernadette Among refused to heap the blame on the referee after her team suffered a shock one nil loss at the hands of Zambia’s Shepolopolo on Saturday in the on-going COSAFA Women’s Challenge Cup.

Among rather pointed her teams failure to create chances during the match as the reason they failed to beat Zambia.

“I don’t think so. When you go into war you don’t expect things to be easy that’s why i hardly blame the referee anytime I lose. The team just need to play better, they failed to create chances, was it the referee who made them not to create chances?. Maybe the referee gave things she was not suppose to give but the team needs to play better, ” she said.

“Zambia is a good team and I think it was a good challenge. This is the fifth time we are meeting Zambia and this was the first time for them to take it, ” she added.

Her opposite number Beauty Mwamba described the win as a very big step for a youthful Zambia that is preparing to take part in the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations.

” It’s a very big step for us. If you look at the Zambia team it’s a very young team. We only have seven players who were at the last COSAFA tournament, Most of them are young mostly coming straight from the U17 with the youngest turning 16 later this year. So we are building a team and us winning this game against Cameroon who were runners up at the last Women Aftica Cup nations it’s motivation and a real test of what to expect at the Cup of nations,” she said.

Zambia created a number of chances but they failed to utilise them but the coach is not losing any sleep over the missed chances.

” We created alot of chances and we missed a lot of them but that’s water under the bridge. We remain forced on the next match, ” She said.

Zambia beat Cameroon 1-0 to move to the top of group B with six points from two games.

Beauty the coach is doing great. This is her first coaching assignment.
If only she can instill professionalism in team, by stopping those gospel songs.
