ALGERIA IN ‘COSAFA GROUP’…as Zambia is drawn against Zim, Botswana & the Desert Foxes in AFCON 2021 qualifier.

CAF 2012 African Cup of Nations Champions Zambia has been in drawn in Group H of the Cameroon 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Chipolopolo Boys will go head to head with 2019 African Cup of Nations finalist Algeria and two neighbours Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Ecomically, it will be another manageable group as two of the away matches will just need a boat cross the Zambezi river to go and fulfil the fixture.

Caution should be taken as Zambia failed to negotiate past a group comprising of Guinea Bissau and, two Southern African countries Mozambique and Namibia in the previous qualifiers.

With Zambia being the reigning Cosafa Cup Champions, the boys from Lusaka are expected to collect maximum points against the Zebras.

Coincidently, the two sides will face each other in the CHAN qualifiers over a two legged tie in the next three weeks.

With two countries set to qualify to the Yaounde finals, Zambia and Zimbabwe will continue their regional rivalry as the ‘Battle of Zambezi’ goes continental.

While bookmakers expect Algeria to be favourites, the North Africans are wary of the Chipolopolo Boys.

During the race for the Russia 2018 World Cup, the Desert Foxes were dismantled by Enoch Mwepu and Augustine Mulenga as Zambia recorded a double over a North African opposition.

Pressure will be whoever will be in charge at Football House as the Chipolopolo faithful will not accept to watch the Cameroon edition on TV, and for the third time in row, having failed to qualify for the 2017 and 2019 edition.

Tomorrow we will be routing for Algeria. If they win it will be to our advantage in this group!

No easy teams nowadays, but at least no big West African country.
Algeria we can beat, at least a draw is possible away . Optimistic that this will be a better Afcon – 3rd time lucky???
World cup 2022 qualifying groups will be announced soon.
FAZ needs to get a coach in place .
    Fast.

  12. Felix okei says:

I tip Algeria and Zambia to qualify from dis group, but hey be wary of Zimbabwe, those guys are good

  13. Matt Sky says:

Tough group. At the rate we are going currently, we will not qualify unless we we drastically step up both on the pitch and at admin level. Zimbabwe currently looks a way better team than Zambia and Algeria is miles ahead in terms of quality than us.Only two teams qualify….we should be very scared unless we improve fast between now and the qualifiers.

  14. Sibs says:

This is no easy Group. Zimbabwe are a good and an improved side. I’m sure they feel they can make it with Algeria. We need a good Coach and also player selection is key.
The last AFCON Qualifiers we stared badly with a home loss against Mozambique. I also agree with the guys here. WIN all your home games to stand a chance of qualifying. What will be key is what can we come out with in Algiers and Harare? I know in Gaborone will get 3 Points though not guaranteed.

FAZ Quality Coach please. Can’t we go the guy Coaching Uganda??

  15. Sibs says:

@Slim. I don’t understand by what you saying that if Algeria win the 2019 AFCON it will be to our advantage? If you think that if the become Champions they will automatically qualify for the 2021 Cameroon addition you wrong. Even as Champions a team still has to qualify.

The only Group made easier or difficult is GROUP F. Cameroon, Cape Verde , Mozambique and Rwanda. Cameroon will qualify automatically as Hosts and then the other 3 remaining teams will fight for one spot.

hard WORK SHOULD BE OUR PRIORITY FOR US TO QUALIFY’

  17. Nelson Ndhlovu says:

TO QUALIFY, WE JUST NEED TO PLAY ALL OUR GAMES AT HEROES STADIUM. EVEN WITH A LOCAL COACH, WE CAN QUALIFY. LEVY MWANAWASA STADIUM IS NOT USER-FRIENDLY TO CHIPOLOPOLO. REMEMBER WE FAILED QUALIFY TO AFCON AFTER LOSING TO MOZAMBIQUE AT LEVY. WE EVEN DREW WITH GUINEA BISSAU AT LEVY

FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR WORLD CUP AFTER LOSING FIRST GAME TO NIGERIA AT LEVY MWANAWASA STADIUM. WE HAVE ALWAYS STRUGGLED AGAINST EVEN SMALL TEAMS AT THIS STADIUM. REMEMBER WE DREW AGAINST CAMEROON IN THE WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS AT LEVY. BUT WE BEAT ALGERIA AT HEROES. SURPRISINGLY AFTER BEATING ALGERIA AT HEROES FAZ TOOK THE MATCH AGAINST CAMEROON TO LEVY MWANAWASA

AND WAY BACK AT THE SAME LEVY WITH HERVE RENARD WE DREW AGAINST SUDAN IN THE WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS. HAD WE WON THIS MATCH, THE LAST MATCH AGAINST GHANA IN GHANA WOULD HAVE BEEN A FORMALITY MATCH

SO PLEASE FAZ LETS PLAY ALL OUR GAMES AT HEROES AND WE WILL QUALIFY FOR BOTH THE AFCON AND WORLD CUP.

Let’s ASK OURSELVES. WHY IS IT THAT GHANA AND NIGERIA DONT PLAY THEIR MATCHES IN THEIR CAPITAL CITIES?. THEY KNOW THAT A STADIUM CAN IMPACT ON A TEAMS PERFORMANCE. NIGERIA PLAYS IN UYO AND GHANA NORMALLY PLAY IN KUMASI. FOOTBALL IS A STRANGE GAME.

YOU CAN BRING IN MOURINHO TO COACH ZAMBIA HE WILL STILL LOSE AT LEVY.

  18. Nelson Ndhlovu says:

    CONSISTENCY
I have noted that there is a lot of inconsistency in team selection. Where is the Chipolopolo team that beat Algeria home and away? Had we used that team we would have participated in the last AFCON. let’s NOT CHANGE THE TEAM ANYHOW.
