2019 AFCON : Shitembi, Sabamukama and Mavugo off to Egypt as Akumu and Lombard miss out
A number of teams heading to Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations have named their final 23 man squads. Kenya national team coach Sebastian Migne has surprisingly dropped Zesco United midfielder Anthony Akumu from his squad.
Akumu played a key role in Zesco United’s season helping them to finish on top of Stream A and reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. Nkana defender Musa Mohammed and Zesco United center-back David Owino have all made the cut.

SHITEMBI OFF TO EGYPT
Lusaka dynamos talented attacking midfielder Petrus Shitembi has been named in coach Ricardo Mannetti’s 23 member squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Shitembi was one of the most outstanding players in the just ended Super League season and will be a key member of the Brave Warriors of Namibia as they look to go far in group D.
Another Lusaka dynamos player in Willy Stephanus has made the cut. Defender Tiberius Lombard has surprisingly been a drop from the squad. Lombard struggled with an injury during the transitional league season and maybe that’s why he misses out on the Egypt bound squad.
The Brave Warriors will play Morocco on 23 June before taking on South Africa on 28 June, both at Al Salam Stadium. They will play their final group game against Ivory Coast on 1 July at Cairo International Stadium.
