Born from more than just a football family, Linos Makwaza Jr is a third generation footballer being the son of former Napsa Stars coach Linos Makwaza and grandson of Mufulira Wanderers and Zambia national team legendary defender nicknamed barbed wire, Dickson Makwaza. What a name to carry.

The 21 year old central midfielder is a product of Power Dynamos’ feeder club, Young Power, with only a couple of years experience in Zambian footballs 2nd division Linos Makwaza earned his promotion into the Power Dynamos 37 man Super Division roster for the season with most already writing him off to be lowest in the pecking order for central midfield positions behind Benson Sakala and Fidele Mbengela Bosandja.

Linos was a part of Beston Chambeshi’s initial 2017 U20 draft team to play the U20 Africa Cup and U20 World cup during the same year but didn’t make the final cut for the tournament.

Tall in stature and very technically developed, Linos can be described as a ball playing central midfielder who is often deployed as a defensive midfielder although is very intelligent in his use of the ball in the attacking half of the pitch as well.

But as football goes, opportunity did present itself with Benson Sakala out for national team duty and Fidele Bosandja sidelined with a groin injury, the 20 year old Zambian football legacy made his debut in Monze against New Monze Swallows in a week 14 encounter won by Power Dynamos with Linos earning himself a Fans Man of the Match award at Lwengu Ground.

Since then Linos has been in and around the squad at Power Dynamos, having featured in high profile games against Zesco United, Lusaka Dynamos and Away at Red Arrows. After a string of impressive performances Makwaza has even earned himself an initial call up for assessment with the National Team under new Head Coach Sven Vandenbroek.

With the way things are moving the youngster seems to be good prospect for the future both at Club and national team should he keep going in this same direction.

  1. He should take position #2 at national team. Pa mid he can’t compete with Mwepu, Kondwani, E.Banda.
Even E.Banda should consider taking up #3. Because Kalaba might come back to national team.
    Kapumbu and Silwamba are replaceable.

    • From what I have seen in him he can compete with the big boys. If he is given game time in the same way Napsa stars nurtured Mwepu the boy can bring the career of many old guards in the Zambian national side to an abrupt end.

  2. I hear Dickson Makwaza was some player. Though liwewe gave it to Eston Mulrnga. I think both where serious leaders. Serious and nu. Winners.

  3. I hear Dickson Makwaza was some player. Though liwewe gave it to Eston Mulenga. I think both where serious leaders without being captain. Serious and nu. Winners. You need five or six captains rhetoric in a winning team. We had them when we won Afcon. Katongo, Kalaba, Mweene, Mayuka, Sunzu. Ee had them. Players need to stake their claim with new coach. Step forward Makwaza?

  4. The boy is set for big things.I honestly feel Zambia must go back to the drawing board and restrategize. The Zambia B must be brought back. It is in that Team that the fringe players could be given an opportunity play. The U 20 team had players who could not make it to the final team and this boy to me is one great prospect who I think can bounce back at another level.

  5. Very good news to hear. It seems bola yapa lupwa and I wish this young man the best.
He has the whole world ahead of him. He should just aim at excelling beyond his father and his grandfather both of who were great sons of the soil.
I still remember that Linos Makwaza Sr gem of a goal against sasafrica. Sasafrica even went and disbanded the team pulling out of the qualifiers saying they were not ready for the big stage.
