With the deadline to reduce the electoral college fast approaching it is only right that FAZ restructures the leagues in order to conform to the requirements by the supreme body in world football.
While the general view from most fans and other interested parties is that we are not ready for an expanded league it is right to avoid all avoidable penalties that may arise from not doing as we have been requested to.
Teams may struggle with the adjustment in terms of overload on the players, strain both physical and financial and a few others.
However, everyone is set to benefit from the move and here I take a look at the immediate benefits at a glance for a number of stake holders ranging from fans,clubs and Zambian football as a whole.
FANS
The increase in number of games from 34 to 38 will give more entertainment to the fans and a good chance to view their teams an additional number of times.
The excitement among local fans for local football has grown over the years and this adds to the spice.
The fan base for local football will increase considering the location of teams such as Real Makonde.
Almost everyone from that region will want to be identified with this team and no matter what their fortunes will be in their maiden appearance in the super league, Â Makonde will have a permanent good following of the super league and the Tanzania fans from across the border will add to the publicity of the league and Zambian league will tap into that fan base.

Sustained success will be attained at all levels of the national teams. In the next years we may not even have people calling for every player in Europe with a name that sounds Zambian because we will have too many lads abroad and some may even be surplus to our requirements.
The selection base for the national teams will be widened and since much consideration for selection is given to players in the super league this gives us more candidates.
It is always good to view positives from every move and certainly many more than these above will accrue. For all stakeholders from boardrooms to the vuvuzela Sadler and even the young kid with a local club hero to cheer for,everyone will benefit.

The article needs a little more depth. I think we need to look at the counter points further.
34 to 38 games only means 4 more games and only 2 of those will be at home and will provide gate takings for teams. This is not nearly enough to offset the cost of playing those extra games. The benefits are minimal if they are even any benefits.
The sponsors benefitting. Not significantly going to impact their pockets because unless they increase the funding to the teams, it will only mean they get minimal extra advertising.
Overall the cost of playing more fixtures in more locations though that’s only 2 games. The league expansion should come with a clear understanding of cost vs benefits analysis.
The individual club cost to play those extra 4 games pitted against the amount of revenue that will be generated. The biggest factor here is not simply in the number of games or number of teams; it will come down to how far spread the teams are in the country which will affect the transportation cost. Then the expanded league may also affect player salaries. Are there structures or sponsorship packages in place to adjust to the added cost of doing business?

Gate talkings in Zambian leagues accounts for less than 20 % of the clubs general expenditure.
We are increasing the expenditure without where most clubs have very little sponsorship.
Just like bringing a national division one league will bring more problems. With regional division one we have been having alot of unfulfilled fixtures. I don’t know what these FAZ guys are thinking.

I hope FAZ is not thinking of bringing a national division one league which would definitely be a problem. Increasing the Super League to 20 teams is not as impacting, but would be catastrophic at the Division 1 level. We need to put a better deal in place and sit down with the clubs since they have a better understanding of their own finances. FAZ seriously needs to think about the second order effects and sustainability of a national division one league. Though, I will caveat that by saying that this is the first I’m hearing of a national division one league.

People also have to consider that the sponsorship money from Supersport or MTN will now have to be shared among more teams.
30,000 kwacha,is not enough to run a club very off the line of rail,it won’t work.in the EPL if say hull city is promoted just the sponsorship money will see them through the season and am just talking about TV rights.
